We were in Tokyo in 2004 when we came across the Graniph stores. They are everywhere. If you want access to a fast turnover, cheap and cheerful collection of t-shirts this is the place. Where so many outlets of this kind contain few wearable designs, Graniph shirts mostly avoid the zany and fall into the oblique and sometimes completely bizarre.

There’s a bit of ‘Engrish’ misinterpretation of phrases (engrish.com) in most of the designs, and a hefty dose of German for some reason. There’s also quite a few featuring the scary Control Bear. There are hundreds of designs to choose from, guest designers, and non graphic stuff too like hoodies. Happily we can now buy our Graniph Ts online. Best to buy a few at a time to help with the postage though.
