Das Racist – Sit Down, Man

Posted on 08 May 2011 by Bowlegs

Rewind continues to open the doors to all the good stuff we left behind, and this week we pick up Das Racist and their second mixtape. The guest-list for starters is more than impressive –  from Jay-Z, over to Diplo, take in a bit of Teengirl Fantasy, check in on Chairlift, work with el-p and go for a joint effort with Roc Marciano. And that’s just a quick Bowlegs’ skim over a few of those involved – a clear signal of the band’s eclectic taste.

With such an impressive roster of producers and guest performers the songs remain cohesive, thanks to the over-flowing personality that is Das Racist – these guys can make a rap out of most things. Check ‘hahahaha jk?’ , listing chips over some looping strings and a kicking around breakbeat. The European styled electronics on the Chairlift produced (and featuring) ‘Fashion Party’ is another world, the guests singing between the bass-sliding, funked-up verses. Big claps on the Diplo ‘You Can Sell Anything’, chopped up samples switch and swap in ‘Return to Innocence’ – with an Enigma styled riff wavering throughout.

The New York based trio have set  it out on their second release – and guess what , you can have it for free right now – just head here: Das Racist
