There is something about the music Lady Lazarus creates that seems rather insistent on setting everyday life to one side, pushing you into a sub-conscious state and gently waltzing around you. The live, yet often looping styled piano, will be the portal, her voice directing you at every turn. The musician behind all this is Melissa Ann Sweat, she’s from San Jose and only starting learning the piano in 2008. Once the songs started to flow she quit her day job and chased the dream, and thank god she did as we are liking what we hear. Her album, ‘Mantic’, is out now (if Bowlegs can get out of this trance-like-state we will be reviewing it), it’s Chamber Pop in an experimental and un-rushed form – and is a beauty.
